Glean, Glow, Glam! – Works by Denise Treizman
Curated by Mahara Martinez "Glean, Glow, Glam!" is an exhibition that challenges artistic conventions by exploring the intersection of found objects, weavings made with non-traditional materials, and a fascination with light. Denise Treizman invites us to a visual game where 'no hierarchy' reigns, and each component, from delicate ceramic pieces to seemingly worthless objects, makes up a unique narrative. Her "seamless" artistic language fuses ready-made with hand-crafted, resulting in an experience that defies expectations and stimulates reflection.

Susan McLaughlin "Girl Crush"
“Girl Crush” celebrates the female form. The exhibit will include large to mid-sized acrylic paintings on linen panels created over the past five years.
Throughout the series, the artistic style dances between abstraction and figuration Some of the new works use a few abstract lines and forms to capture the essence of femininity. Others embrace Susan’s detailed representational style. Her color palette ranges from just a few colors to produce soft and muted compositions to multiple colors employed to create vibrant and bold depictions. The traditional and modern methods are present separately and together. There are three distinct types of works apparent in the series: complete abstraction, detailed figuration, and a combination of both. |

MCC and Hampton Art Lovers Presents “Redlining | America The Beautiful | The Art of Brandon Clarke"
Brandon Clarke explores Black artistic expression within the context of the past (and sometimes current) discriminatory practice of redlining within communities of color. Clarke’s artwork wrestles with a range of critical questions about space, design and architecture while also questioning the concept of America “The Beautiful”. Clarke’s background as an architect and designer of physical space compels him to explore these themes more broadly in his artwork.
Redlining is a racially discriminatory, and now, illegal practice of devaluing homes in communities of color. The Civil Rights Movement ended these practices through the passage of laws such as the Fair Housing Act of 1968. Date: January 10 – February 29, 2024 Gallery Hours: Mondays to Thursdays 9:30am – 4:30pm. Special opening on Saturday, January 20, 10:30am – 2:30pm. Free commemorative MCC ArtScape gift to first 15 attendees. Cost: Free |

Glory of the World: Color Field Painting (1950s to 1983)
This exhibition explores a tendency in mid-twentieth-century American abstract painting in which vast areas of color appear as the dominating force. Although this type of painting was prefigured in the work of previous generations of abstract painters, such as Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, it is identified with artists including Frank Bowling, Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Gilliam, Morris Louis, Kenneth Noland, Jules Olitski, Larry Poons. Frank Stella and Alma Thomas, among others. Color Field painting was but one of several art movements that emerged in America during the early 1960s, including Pop Art, Minimalism, Op Art, Photorealism, hard-edge abstraction, and the Black Arts Movement, to name a few. Although critics tended to categorize the Color Field artists based solely on their shared formal characteristics, each artist approached their process from a distinct perspective, while maintaining an awareness of each other’s innovations.

Walasse Ting: Parrot Jungle
Walasse Ting: Parrot Jungle is a comprehensive exhibition made to re-introduce audiences to the extraordinary world of artist Walasse Ting (b. 1928, Wuxi, China; d.2010, New York NY). Ting was one of the most radical and independent figures of his time, bridging the worlds of ancient Chinese aesthetics, the European avant-garde and the American Pop Art multiverse. While Ting’s place within the art historic canon is recognized due to the artist’s book 1¢ Life (1964), NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is the first American institution to go beyond this legacy and acknowledge Ting’s mastery within a monographic museum show.
This exhibition provides viewers the opportunity to immerse themselves in Ting’s neon-soaked visions of nubile women, flora, fauna, and an endless menagerie of cats, parrots and hibiscus. Simultaneously, the show establishes a biographic narrative of Ting’s diasporic life; one that led to the formation of a transnational identity that left the artist without the typical ambassadorship countries engage in to display their creative wealth. |

Pablo Picasso: Dust You Are, To Dust You Return
This exhibition of ceramics by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) drawn exclusively from NSU Art Museum’s collection, is presented on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death. Picasso’s early 20th-century cubist paintings revolutionized modern painting. A prolific artist, he produced over 50,000 works in a variety of mediums, including drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Although Spanish-born, he made France his home. Following World War II he met Suzanne and Georges Ramie, the owners of the renowned Madura ceramic workshop in Vallauris, a small seaside town located in the South of France. He became so enthralled with the ceramic medium that he moved to Vallauris in 1947, and remained there until 1955. He continued to experiment with the clay medium for the next 25 years, producing thousands of original and editioned vessels, bowls, and plaques that he transformed into all kinds of beasts and mythological creatures. Inspired by his experience with lithography, Picasso was excited by the possibility of creating ceramic multiples that would enable him to share his vision with a wider audience. This populist sentiment connected him with the artisans he worked with at the factory. He identified with their sense of purpose and the satisfaction they derived from their craft.

This exhibition features sculptures composed of found objects and that are distinguished by the unlikely combinations of repurposed materials that constitute their form.Beginning November 20 through April 16, 2023, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale will present Malcolm Morley: Shipwreck, in collaboration with Hall Art Foundation. Malcolm Morley (b. London, 1931-2018) achieved widespread acclaim in the 1960s for his photo-based paintings.
